The Blues
Blowtorch Society arranged Fruteland Jackson to visit central
Illinois as part of the first "Blues in the Schools" program in
McLean County. On Thursday, April 3, 2003, he conducted an after
school program at the Depot in El Paso, thanks to the generous help
of Dennis Schreck and on Friday he traveled to area schools to share
his love of the blues and his knowledge of how blues tells about the
history of the people who created it. Thursday night he educated
adults with the same mix of music and history for patrons of Rhino's
in Bloomington. A special thanks to Blues Blowtorch Society members Julie Swanberg and J. Balmer. Julie's hard work made it possible for Fruteland to come to Bloomington, and J. Balmer played a big role in local arrangements. To keep up with Fruteland and learn more about blues in the schools check out his web page: www.fruteland.com |
